Blogger Andy Torres - From Mexico to International Stardom
Meet veteran style fashion blogger, Andy Torres. Originally from Mexico, Torres (30) moved to Amsterdam and fell into a career in freelance styling, along the way opened her highly successful 7 year old blog “The Style
Scrapbook”. With 15 thousand visits each day it’s no surprise that we are able to see her name on multiple
noteworthy brand collaborations like accessories collections for Mango, a line of camera bags for Kipling,
and even a short stint judging on ELLE Mexico Diseña for E! T.V.
Andy’s arrival to Holland would not be considered an easy one. She came following her boyfriend who was
already established in the city and left behind her inteior design studies and her dream of someday moving
to Paris. She arrived with no language and therefore no job prospects, all of which prompted her to begin her
online blog as a hobby and entertainment outlet during an era when online fashion sources were still fresh and
new. Perfect timing coupled with flare, charm, a distinct eye for the perfect outfit, and a short course in fashion
styling at a local school made the Style Scrapbook wildly famous in a very short amount of time.
Magazines like NYLON Mexico, Glamour France, Razz Magazine, Glossy Magazine, Magnificent Magazine, Vogue.com, Minmote mag, and a slew of other online publications have all done features on the blogger showcasing her style peppered with sharp shoulders, leather, fur, and boyfriend blazers.
Interestingly enough Andy’s fashion origins came from her French designer grandmother and a lack of pants that fit her properly. “I could never find pants that would fit. The first time they actually did without me having to adjust them was after Zara opened stores in Mexico. Before that, pants would end fifteen centimeters above my ankles and we’re not talking about skinny jeans... On the contrary, during those days flared jeans were the trend! All in all, it was just plain horrible. [...] My grandmother was a designer, she was from French origin and I remember her always wearing big hats. I think my interest in fashion also stems from her, in line with my mum always saying that I’m exactly like her [my granmother].”
When it comes to her specific style choices she is very clear in what she likes “sporty style, especially lately. I
could live in a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, a varsity jacket, and high heels, which is somehow interesting considering I am 6’1’’. I love high heels despite my height!”. To achieve her just-left-the-gym-but-still-look-fabulous looks Andy relies on a handful of brands like Zara, H&M, Asos, ACNE, Opening Ceremony, and Shopbop that consistently design pieces she can work around with.
Although she doesn’t have a specific plan for the future, personal or blog-wise, she does have a few objectives she wants to achieve. Among them is fulfilling her lifelong dream of moving to Paris, broadening her horizons in the T.V industry, and expanding her brand and business into something less perishable.
